Flashback Friday: So So Def Bass All-Stars Compilation and Erick Sermon

Who set the thermostat outside to Venus? It is BLAZING outside. That got me in the mood for a few throwback summer jams. Check ’em out.

So So Def Bass All-Stars Compilation (1996)

I’ll admit I’m not a huge connoisseur of this genre but sometimes exceptions have to be made. There’s nothing quite like Miami bass music to set off a summer party. This set is mainly known for Ghost Town DJ’s classic summer jam “My Boo,” but if you frequented parties in the late 90s, many of the songs here will ring a bell. Sometimes you have to turn off your brain and just turn up. WHATZ UP WHATZ UP WHATZ UP!

Erick Sermon, Music (2001)

The Green Eyed Bandit’s fourth album didn’t drop till the fall of 2001, but the title smash “Music” dominated both rap and contemporary R&B stations that summer. That track rides the same wave of feel-good nostalgia currently pumping through our speakers. It was if Erick Sermon brought Marvin Gaye back to life. The album wasn’t a one-track pony, though – it was strong in its own right.
