Listen Up: G.I. Magus, Dat Numba 4

Born in Jacksonville, NC but primarily raised in Birmingham, Ala., rapper G.I. Magus got his start by writing poetry. His love of music drove him to form Battle C.A.T.S., a group of Birmingham spitters who aren’t shy about professing their devotion to God. “I have to break barriers and push the limits,” G.I. said. “That’s my motivation, to see change and positively affect future generations.”

If G.I. is looking to positively affect hip hop, he just needs to keep spitting as viciously as he does on “Dat Numba 4.” Y’all know I don’t impress easily but quite a few of his punchline made me jump like I was stung by a wasp.

In this case, that’s a good thing.

Check out “Dat Numba 4” below and click here to download his mixtape, The Thermostat Vol. 1. It ranks among the best mixtapes I’ve heard all year.

  1. Sounds hot! Never heard of this cat, but glad y’all introduced him to us… Fierce!

The production is sick, too!! Don’t you just appreciate REAL hip-hop?!

  2. This is my favorite track from this mixtape. The first time I heard it, I was playing it in my car and I nearly had a wreck it was so good!
