Blogging in Style

In my next life, I want to be a fashion blogger. Until then I’ll settle for being a fashion blogger groupie.

In case you haven’t noticed, social media (which not only includes sites like Facebook and Twitter, but also YouTube and blogs) are taking over the world. This includes the fashion industry. And I would venture to say that just as blogs and social media have democratized the Internet and journalism, it’s doing the same thing in fashion. Nowadays street style (highlighting everyday style mavens instead of just focusing on glamourous, over-the-top runway and red carpet looks) is all the rage. The August 2011 issue of Glamour magazine, which is devoted to celebrating street chic, editors led the fashion section with a feature on some of today’s top fashion bloggers.

You can pick up the issue to find out which bloggers Glamour editors have their eyes on, but here three of  my favorite fashion bloggers:

Gabi Gregg

Founder of the blog Young Fat and Fabulous (which she recently renamed Gabi Fresh) Gregg features stylish and often quite affordable plus-size fashion. What I love most about her blog is the self-confidence that exudes from each post and how she doesn’t believe in following fashion rules.

Elsie Larson

A full-time fashion designer and boutique owner, Larson started her lifestyle blog A Beautiful Mess in July of 2007. Her blog really has something for everyone including crafts projects and handmade fashions, tips for young designers and business owners, and posts on how to make your creative dreams come true.

Rebecca of The Clothes Horse

I found this blog one day while clicking around on the site ModCloth.com. On her blog Rebecca writes, “When I am in an outfit I really like I feel a little untouchable—no one can really criticize my appearance because I am completely at ease in my clothes.” This resonated with me because I feel the exact same way. She describes one of her fashion philosophies this way: “wear what you like so much that everyone else can hate it and it doesn’t bother you.”
