Guilty Pleasures: Puff Daddy and the Family, ‘Workin’

We all have guilty pleasures, those songs that have no business on our iPods or the tracks we only blast with the windows up. In this column I man up and share my darkest musical secrets.

Today, Sandie Leathers stops by to hit us with her current guilty pleasure, Diddy’s “Workin.” If you’re late to the game, check out our review of Diddy’s new album here.

“I don’t think there’s ever been a hard core hip-hop anthem for workaholics. That’s a short list. Kane had a few but that was…. 30 years ago. Lol

“I like the song because I’m from the church of work. Work is the solution for all life’s problems. I wish I could leave it as my outgoing message on my office voicemail. I play it as soon as I sit at my desk. I love it. But Diddy (even with the best ghostwriters his money can buy) is a terrible rapper. So as a purist, I cringe at giving him any non-producing credit. But this song is really his element because he’s an old school hustler. Those kind of cars don’t pass you every day.

“These kids today, they think they know the grind.Nah. Street team, no car, same clothes for four days, flyers at Kinko’s, THATS THE GRIND.

“So, I think I like it because its really believable. It’s pretty authentic. That’s a leap for Puff.”

What’s your guilty pleasure? Email, hit me up on Twitter @etbowser, or stop by the comments section and share your guilty pleasures. Leave a sentence or two and I’ll share your selection in a future column.
