Help Us Build The Ultimate Christmas Playlist

Now that the turkey has been digested and those credit card bills are poppin’, t’is the season for some classic Christmas tunes!

I mean, who doesn’t love to hear those guttural “Silent Night” notes from The Temptations or a snowbound Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight beggin’ for booty?

Well, I know some people don’t like Christmas music, but they’re weirdos. We’ll check back in with them on Dec. 26. Because for the first 25 days of December, Soul In Stereo is saluting the classics.

Every day leading up to Christmas, we’re building the Ultimate Christmas Playlist, personally curated by YOU. Each day, we’ll feature a song selected by a reader and add it to the running Spotify playlist.

To do it, we’ll need your help. Don’t worry, it’s easy.

To add your faves, simply name your song and give us at least one sentence describing why you love it so. That’s it. The only caveats are that the song has to be on Spotify, obviously, and it can’t be a song someone else has chosen, duh.

Leave your selections on the comments of this post, at our Soul In Stereo Cypher Facebook page, hit me up on Twitter @etbowser, or email us at soulinstereoblog@gmail.com.

So hit a brother with your favorite Christmas songs and let’s make this season merry and bright.

  1. Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song” is the perfect Christmas song. Every great Christmas song is a balance of nostalgia and melancholy and this is one of the most beautiful bittersweet songs there is. There’s a reason it’s the song usually used in movies when some sad dude is sitting in a bar a thousand miles away from his family. Shout out to all the people older than 92 though. I’ll still wish them a Merry Christmas, even if Nat won’t.

  2. This is hard because I have 96 songs on my Spotify Christmas playlist. But one of my favorites is of course “This Christmas” by Donny Hathaway. I like to hear fresh renditions of classics but most remakes of “This Christmas” are pretty horrible or just boring. One exception for me is jazz singer Kurt Elling’s version. I recommend this version if you’re looking for a good cover of the song that won’t make Donny Hathaway roll over in his grave.

  3. I like T-Rex – “Christmas Bop” and Louis Armstrong – “‘Zat You, Santa Claus?”
