Flashback Friday: Timbaland and Rich Boy

Today we’re setting the Soul In Stereo time machine back by one decade – let’s look at a couple of memorable but overlooked albums from back in 2007.

shock value

Timbaland, Shock Value (2007)

Shock Value is a polarizing album. It dropped at the height of Tim’s mainstream notoriety so it’s pretty beloved by many fans. And while longtime Timbo fans like me were a bit indifferent to it at the time (Indecent Proposal is still my favorite Tim release) it’s grown a bit more favorable in recent years. It’s a great snapshot of Timbaland’s work at his mainstream height.

rich boy

Rich Boy, Rich Boy (2007)

Alabama’s own Rich Boy seemed poised to be the South’s next breakout star after dropping that scorcher “Throw Some D’s.” That beat is INCREDIBLE. Things didn’t quite work out that way but the potential is still there.

“Throw Some D’s (Remix),” featuring André 3000, Jim Jones, Murphy Lee, Nelly & Game

“Boy Looka Here”
