Alicia Keys, The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003)

Alicia Keys’ sixth album, Here, finally hits streets today (Soul In Stereo review coming soon!). I haven’t heard the album in full yet, but here’s hoping it’s half as good as Alicia’s sophomore effort, which has become one of my favorite R&B albums of the past 20 years. A Keys was at her creative and vocal peak on this album, which is home to some of her most recognized hits.

Mya, Fear of Flying (2000)

Mya quietly released her seventh album, Smoove Jones, earlier this year to little fanfare. It was a decent – albeit unspectacular – project. For my money, the best Mya release was her sophomore album Fear of Flying. It’s an impressive mix of soul, pop and hip-hop-influenced cuts. Sure, the singles got all the attention but even the album cuts were pretty strong. Fear of Flying was peak Mya; let’s hope she reaches those heights again.
