Flashback Friday: MC Lyte and Charlie Wilson

Oh Friday, what would we ever do without you?

Come on in and check out these old favorites. Friday’s the best day to unwind.

MC Lyte, Lyte As A Rock (1988)

Journey with me back to 1988, when female MCs had to be twice as hard and twice as skilled as their male counterparts to get noticed. MC Lyte’s debut will go down as not only a spectacular album from a female rapper, but one of the best of the 80s. No plastic butts here, just hard rhymes.

Charlie Wilson, Uncle Charlie (2009)

It’s been more than five years since we first heard it but “There Goes My Baby” is still the jam. Uncle Charlie’s 2009 album still holds up too. Charlie Wilson has proven to be a timeless voice – it’s as pristine as it was decades ago.
