25 Songs of Christmas, Day 6: Run DMC, “Christmas in Hollis”

Here at Soul In Stereo, we’re counting down to Christmas by featuring our favorite holiday tracks. Here’s today’s Christmas classic:

I love my boy Nick Birdsong (@birds_word) because he knows his hip-hop history. If you’re an ’80s baby, the second those notes hit you’re smacked in the face by Christmas nostalgia.

Yeah, the rhymes are ridiculous (Rev. Run finding Santa’s million-dollar wallet, for example) but that’s why we love this song so much. Remember when rap was fun?

My name’s D.M.C. with the mic in my hand
And I’m chilling and coolin just like a snowman
So open your eyes, lend us an ear
We want to say
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
