Happy Half Birthday to Me!

Yes, as a matter a fact I do still celebrate my half birthday. Today I am 30.5 years old. I don’t need to have a party because this evening I’ll be heading to the Wine Loft, one of my favorite spots in Birmingham, for a natural hair meetup. But I figured it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t celebrate on my blog too. I’ll do so by taking a look at the list of goals I set for myself six months — 30 Firsts Before My 31st — ago to check my progress and to revamp the list — letting myself off the hook for those that are simply too lofty or simply no longer of interest and adding new ones.

Sadly, I’ve only accomplished five things on my list: lead a Church of the Highlands small group, compose a video blog post, get published in skirt! magazine, get published on The Hairpin, and post a blog entry everyday for a month (this was over on my skirt! blog, though). But I’ve done so much I didn’t include on that list (such as trying spinning, starting See Jane Write, joining the Alabama Social Media Association and attending the skirt! Creative Conference) I’m not beating myself up about this.

So here is my revised 30 firsts before my 31st list (minus 5 items since I’ve accomplished those):

1. Host a vision board party.
2. Attend Fro Fashion Week.
3. Revamp my wardrobe.
4. Get published on Clutch magazine.
5. Get published on HelloGiggles.com.
6. Make my own hair product.
7. Try Pure Barre.
8. Try Grand Jete.
9. Pretend to be a real adult and send Christmas letters.
10. Write a novel in a month.
11. Read the complete Hunger Games series.
12. Read How Did You Get This Number
13. Be featured on Black Girl with Long Hair.
14. Be featured on Southern Femme.
15. Get more Twitter followers than Facebook friends (Yes, I’m a social media nerd and Tweet geek. You can follow me @writeoubabe.)
16. Exercise at Railroad Park.
17. Attend the Sidewalk Film Festival.
18. Participate in Birmingham Restaurant Week.
19. Reach my happy weight.
20. Freelance for Birmingham magazine.
21. Interview at least one of my blogger crushes.
22. Try my hand at being a fashion, fitness, and beauty blogger for one month.
23. Participate in the Vulcan Run (even if I have to walk the entire 10k route thanks to my injured ankle.)
24. Guest blog for one of my blogger crushes.
25. Participate in a Bloggers Do It Better fashion challenge.

  1. Those are very lofty goals, and good ones. What I am learning more and more about you – is so very interesting. 🙂 Keep up the great work.
