Edd gets excited over a “Window Seat”

Yesterday, Erykah Badu released her much anticipated album, New Amerykah Part II: Return Of The Ankh. Her powerful video for the song “Window Seat” recently premiered and here was Georgia Mae’s music guru’s response: “I see how Badu got all her men to wear crochet hats and all that other crazy mess. Badu kinda thick up under them Kente cloths!”

If you haven’t heard, Badu removes all of her clothes in the video, but not in a striptease kind of way. Her nudity is meant to make a political statement. (The video also begins with audio from the day President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.) Unfortunately, I’m not sure if Edd or any other heterosexual man will be paying attention to the message she’s trying to convey.  Check it out and let us know what you think. Meanwhile, Edd is going to try to gather his composure and put together a review of the new album. You can expect it this week.

  1. I don’t think I’m deep enough because I don’t understand the statement.

In addition, I’m going to try to just listen to the song the next time. I think I like it but got distracted by the confusing undressing (sad, I know).

  2. It’s about individualism and being yourself. Once you shed the layers and the masks and show people the naked truth of who you really are you’re persecuted, especially if you’re going against the norms of society. At least, that’s what I got out of it.

  3. Find it on youtube again, then watch the reaction of the bystanders, especially the man who started picking up her clothes after her, then stopped. That was entertaining. And yeah, Javacia, I got the same point.
