“If you’re looking for a peaceful relationship, the American black woman is not your best bet.”

The comment above was made by a black man in response to a website that has compiled photographs of well-known black men who are currently married or dating outside of their race.

I’ve written about interracial relationships before on the blog and I maintain that skin color simply shouldn’t be an issue when it comes to love.

Unfortunately, this gallery of photos was simply a celebration of love, but instead an attack on black women, posing the question: “Is it possible that some sisters are driving brothers away?”

Give me a break!

The above comment regarding black women and a “peaceful relationship” also inspired a fellow writer friend of mine to post on her blog a very thoughtful essay on the topic of the “angry black woman” stereotype. Her post is definitely worth a read. Click here to check it out and let me know what you think.

  1. Ask Tiger Woods how peaceful his life is!!

  2. I was thinking exactly what “anonymous” said! Just when I thought Steve Harvey had it all figured out.

This is some bull! When men of any race do stupid sh!t, it results in conflict. I have been on the receiving end of a call from the wife, and she was the white wife of a white man. (And no, I didn’t know he was married.) And I know several black women who will only date white men due to a series of negative experiences with black men.

Your friends’ post is right: we carry the burden of a long history of stereotypes, and we accept them as fact and perpetuate them. Sigh. I wish people had better critical thinking skills and that those who have them would use them every day.

  3. EXACTLY @ anonymous’ post. I’ve been seeing a lot of ‘angry black woman’ stuff floating around the net just this week, what’s the deal?!
