Police on Monday arrested 22-year-old Philip Markoff in the fatal shooting of a woman who advertised massage services on Craigslist. The Boston University medical student is charged with killing Julissa Brisman, 26, who was found dead April 14 at the Boston Marriott Copley Place. In addition, Markoff is charged with kidnapping and armed robbery in a separate case involving another woman he met on Craigslist. In that case, a 29-year-old woman from Las Vegas who advertised massage services was robbed earlier this month at the Westin Copley Hotel. CBS News

The sole surviving Somali pirate from the hostage-taking of an American ship captain arrived in New York, smiling for a gaggle of cameras and reporters as federal agents led him into custody to face charges in the attack at a court hearing Tuesday. Abduhl Wali-i-Musi was handcuffed and had a chain wrapped around his waist. His left hand was heavily bandaged from the wound he suffered during the skirmish on the ship two weeks ago. Wali-i-Musi is the first person to face trial in the United States on piracy charges in more than a century. MSNBC

The top cop tracking the government’s $700 billion bailout program said today he has opened 20 criminal investigations and six audits into whether tax dollars are being pilfered or wasted.
