Congress is easing up on restrictions on family travel to Cuba. Changes in the rules for travel to Cuba are included in a huge government spending bill Congress sent to President Barack Obama Tuesday night. The changes come amid debate on whether the U.S. should lift its trade embargo against the island nation. Under the bill, which Obama is expected to sign, Cuban-Americans could travel to Cuba once a year to visit relatives and stay for an unlimited duration. Existing rules limit family visits to once every three years for no more than 14 days at a time.

R&B singer Chris Brown is still in the running for awards at this year’s Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice awards despite an online petition asking the network to remove him and his girlfriend, pop star Rihanna, from consideration, according to Us Weekly. Brown was charged with two felonies last week in connection with an attack on Rihanna and is accused of beating her Feb. 8. In a statement to UsMagazine.com, Nickelodeon said Brown will remain a Kids’ Choice Award nominee for favorite male singer and his “Kiss Kiss” a nominee for favorite song. (Brown will be competing against Rihanna in the latter category.) An online petition asking Nickelodeon to remove Brown and Rihanna as nominees had 2,166 signatures as of yesterday. UsMagazine.com

What do you think? Should Nickelodeon remove Brown and Rihanna from the ballot or let the kids decide who wins?

  1. I believe C. Breezy has been removed from the Kids Choice awards.

Also, I hear the text message that caused this whole mess allegedly came from his manager, the same manager that was rumored to be sleeping with Chris Brown months ago.

She’s too old to be in the middle of this drama.

  2. I heard that mess about the manager yesterday too, SHAME. But yeah, it looks like Chris is no longer in the awards. A lot of his young fans are still really supportive of him and are upset that his not being included in the awards was even an option. Is this a problem? Or are they just too young to understand the issue?

  3. I think it’s a little of both. You have some kids who may not really understand the gravity of what he did, but unfortunately, I think there may be some older kids who do understand what happen but just don’t think it’s that big of a deal or they’re so caught up in his celebrity that they don’t care.

  4. Yep. Makes perfect sense. I was reading another blog catered to younger readers yesterday, and was so surprised at how many of them dismissed Rihanna, and totally chose Chris’s side. It’s sad because we’ve grown so accustomed to glorifying celebrity that the line is being blurred between right and wrong. Worse, it’s being passed on to the younger generation.
