No husband, no kids, no life?
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell was caught on an open microphone saying Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano is a perfect fit for Homeland Security chief because she “has no family.”
Rendell said Napolitano is “perfect for that job. Because for that job, you have to have no life. Janet has no family. Perfect. She can devote, literally, 19-20 hours a day to it.”
Some people have called the comment sexist. Rendell’s press secretary, Chuck Ardo, however, said Rendell meant no disrespect to Napolitano and would have made the same comment if the candidate was a man. FOXNews.com

What do you think? Was Gov. Rendell’s statement sexist?

  1. ha! this same comment to actually made towards me like yesterday when someone heard me say i couldn’t remember a task i had to do the other night. they said that was impossible because i wasn’t married and had no kids etc.

but anyway enough about me. but yes i think the comment is sexist. but its just the way people think of us single women unfortunately as sad it may sound im starting to get us to crazy ignorant comments about me being nearly 30 and single and childless.

  2. Yes, the comment could have been sexist if he was literally thinking of her as a woman in the position with no family. However, if he was truly thinking of the position being extremely demanding, it might not have been one. I really do think we’ve become too sensitive on some issues, but I guess that’s because a lot of crap comes out of my mouth that I would never have meant the way some things have been received and interpreted.

I also think Harry Reid’s comment was funny and true. I don’t think he meant that people stink of a foul body odor, but I know I can smell an odor on most people (including myself) when I’ve been outside in the sun. My friends and I used to joke about it all the time in high school. Every time we ate lunch outside, for some reason a few of us would always bring up smelling “like the sun” later. I think that’s what he meant.
