A defiant Gov. Rod Blagojevich on Tuesday appointed former state attorney general Roland Burris to Barack Obama’s former Senate seat, a surprise move that put his opponents in the uncomfortable position of trying to block a veteran political trailblazer from becoming the Senate’s only black member. AP President-elect Barack Obama has released a statement saying he agrees with the decision by Democratic leaders not to approve the appointment of former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris to fill his Senate seat. Obama stated: “Roland Burris is a good man and a fine public servant, but the Senate Democrats made it clear weeks ago they cannot accept an appointment made by a governor who is accused of selling this very Senate seat.”

Israel rejected mounting international pressure to suspend its air offensive against Gaza militants and has sent warplanes to demolish the smuggling tunnels that are Islamic Hamas’ lifeline. This March, high school juniors taking the SAT will have the option of choosing which scores to send to colleges while hiding those they do not want admissions officials to see under a new policy called Score Choice. The College Board hopes the policy will reduce student stress around the SAT and college admissions, but some argue it’s really a marketing tool, intended to encourage students to take the test more often. Furthermore, some highly selective colleges have already said that they will not go along with Score Choice. NY Times

Teenagers who take virginity pledges are no less sexually active than other teens, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics. The findings also suggest that teens who take these virginity pledges are less likely to protect themselves against pregnancy or disease when they do have sex. WebMD via



  1. I do not agree with the virginity thing. I mean it would seem to me that those who pledged something like that would be the ones to protect themselves
